Sunsets on Cozumel – vol. 2

Cozumel is an island paradise located off the coast of Playa del Carmen along Mexico’s Riviera Maya. It is famous for both its beaches and the reefs found below the waves. It attracts divers and snorkelers to its beautiful shores. We have been living here for a year and a half now and today we’re going to showcase some of our favourite moments on the island; the sunsets. We’ve become big fans of taking a walk down to the waterfront, finding a nice place to sit along the shore and watching the sun go down. This is just a short sampling of why we love it here on the island so much.

There are a lot of great things to do on the island, but make sure you don’t leave before it gets dark. The sunsets here are out of this world and will be one of the highlights of your trip! After a long day of exploring, watching the sun go down is always such a wonderful way to cap off the day. You can find a seat at one of the beach clubs on the west side, find a spot somewhere along the malecon in the center of town or a bit further north at the Puerto Abrigo Marina. There is a lot of shoreline, which means there are many great places to watch the sunset. It really doesn’t matter where you watch it; Cozumel almost always puts on a amazing show.

We have been on the Riviera Maya for a few years now and one of the things we didn’t like about living in Playa del Carmen was the lack of sunsets. The sun goes always goes down behind you, over the jungle. It’s still pretty, but sunsets over water are always superior. This is true for most places in the Riviera Maya; this beautiful stretch of beachfront is incredible for sunrises and we are not morning people. Cozumel is only a 40 minute ferry ride from the mainland, so it’s easy to hop over to spend the day if your visiting the Cancun or Playa del Carmen. If you do, stay for the sunset. It’s worth it.

The sun sets over the Riviera Maya and we love to sit back and watch nature in all it’s glory. The clouds always look so big, rising high into the sky, and it always casts such beautiful shadows above and below, creating some unique looks.

As you may have guessed from the title, this is the second installment of our Sunsets on Cozumel series. In fact, last fall when we were putting together our first Sunsets on Cozumel post, we had so many “leftovers” that we needed to find a home for them. We have been planning this one for a while. Once again we have run into the same problem; while finishing this post, it turns out we still have many more pictures to share. I guess “too many sunsets” is a good problem to have. I think once you have a look at these pictures, you will understand why we spent many of our evenings watch the sunset.

We will be here for a while longer still, so we anticipate that we will find time to watch a few more sunsets on the island, so stay tuned for many more great sunset pictures in the near future. Now lets get to the main event; this is Sunsets on Cozumel vol. 2
