So long Playa del Carmen. Hello Cozumel!

Welcome to Travel Journal #3! This week we embarked on a new adventure! We have left Playa del Carmen and have moved to the island of Cozumel. It’s always hard to say goodbye, especially somewhere that you’ve called home for a while. But it also means you get to say hello to somewhere new. Plus, who doesn’t want to live on a Caribbean Island?

Norma has lived in Playa del Carmen for the last 3+ years, and Rob has been there on and off for the last year and a half. While we are leaving somewhere we love, we now get to explore a new and exciting destination. Cozumel is known for having some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in Mexico and being that it is an island, it is surrounded by beaches. There are Mayan ruins and a nice little town, but most of the island is uninhabited, with half the island being inaccessible by road.

We are looking forward to exploring our new surroundings! One thing that we’ve missed is seeing the sunset over water (Playa del Carmen is great for sunrise, but no so much sunsets) so being on the island will fill us with some stunning evenings sitting along the water. We are a 10-minute walk from the nearest beach.

On the surface, this looks like a beautiful place to visit, and we plan on digging a little deeper to find some hidden gems. We look forward to sharing with the world everything that Cozumel has to offer.

We will still continue exploring the mainland; the Riviera Maya is a 45-minute ferry from the island, so we will likely go back and forth quite often. We’re already feeling nostalgic, thinking about all of the great places we explored together along the Riviera Maya. We have started to piece together some of our favourite pictures in preparation for some new posts in the coming weeks.

We are looking forward to making this place our new home and exploring every possible destination on the island. We’ve already started planning our first adventures, including trying to find the best beaches on the island. We are looking forward to long walks along the coastline in search of the best pictures. Tonight we are going out in search of ice cream!

Have you been to Cozumel before? What would you recommend for us to do first? We would love to hear from you in the comments.
