May 2021 Wallpaper

May is a time of farewells and new introductions. Out with the old and in with the new. Winter is now firmly in the rearview mirror and the citizens of the Northern Hemisphere are rejoicing the arrival of nice weather. Where we live, this means amazing sunshine some days and heavy rain on other days. As we say farewell to April, we welcome May with open arms. The past year will soon fade into memory and the future will once again let us explore the world. We are hoping that today’s post will brighten your day. Today, we unveil our May 2020 Wallpaper, featuring the Pyramid of Kukulcan located at Chichen Itza on the Yucatan Peninsula.

When it’s time to travel again, we assume everyone has a long bucket list after spending months staring at the computer. We wouldn’t have made it to 2021 without the help of the travel tribe. Thanks to our fellow travel bloggers, we have been able to continue exploring the world through the experiences of others. We’ve personally been going through old pictures and adventures and sharing from the archives, currently exploring Italy through pictures and stories from a trip in 2015.

We are all on the same crazy trip right now, going through this anti-social experiment together. Patience is something that we’ve learned a lot about in 2020/21. We hope everyone is recharging their batteries while we all anxiously await “the after” and the day that your first big trip. Don’t stop dreaming. We’re hopeful for a bright future filled with travel and fun. Just not yet.

Springtime and Sunshine in the Northern Hemisphere!

We’ve spent a lot of time going through old hard drives and stacks of old pictures (printed from actual negatives!) looking for pictures to share during this long period without traveling.

We’ve previously featured pictures from Europe, with St Paul’s Cathedral in London and an incredible view from Prague Castle. Prague is a medieval fairytale city and is the capital of the Czech Republic today. One of the most iconic destinations is located on the top of the hill in the center of the city where the first walled structure was built in 870. Today, it is where Prague Castle is located. It has been the seat of power for Bohemian Kings, Holy Roman Emperors, and presidents.

For the month of May 2021, we have dug deep into the digital archives. After much deliberation, we have decided to showcase the most famous Mayan Pyramid located at Chichen Itza. This is one of the new”7 wonders of the world” and one of the most iconic ancient structures in Mexico. It was closed for much of 2020, but it’s been here for 1000 years, so you will get your chance again.

May the 4th Be with you

O

This isn’t the first time that we’ve shared Mayan Pyramids as our desktop feature. Previously, we shared a picture from Tikal, Guatemala. The site features several prominent pyramids, when viewed from the top of Temple V, looks like they’re poking their heads out of a sea of trees.

One of the reasons we chose this picture was in honor of Star Wars. It is a common saying in the fandom to say “May the Fourth be with you”. This of course is a play on the classic movie phrase “May the force be with you”, which is why we have decided to feature a picture of Tikal, Guatemala. In the first movie (Episode 4 / A New Hope), they filmed here on location, with the ruins and jungle becoming the background for the Rebel Base on Yavin IV, right before they attack Darth Vader and the Death Star.

The ruins are incredible. It’s a large, sprawling complex, and there are several pyramids which you can climb. The best view is the one from the top of Temple IV, looking back at the rest of the complex. There is so much jungle, and from above you can only see the tops of the pyramids sticking out. We spent a whole day wandering through the jungle, listening to the sounds of howler monkeys in the trees and admiring the stone structures.

We hope our latest desktop wallpaper will brighten your spirits. Since 2018, we have been creating desktop wallpapers as a monthly feature as a fun way of showcasing pictures from some of the amazing places we’ve visited. We hope you enjoy our latest installment and are looking forward to our May wallpaper coming soon! Stay safe everyone.
