Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park

Just before the end of the year, we decided to treat ourselves to a day of adventure on Cozumel. The island has many great attractions that are perfect for a day trip. Many visitors to the island are arriving on one of the cruise ships that dock at the ports every day, so these “half-day” adventures on Cozumel are perfect for them. We live here now, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like to explore our surroundings. We decided to give ourselves an afternoon to visit the Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park.

This is one of the most highly rated attractions on the island, and it has many things that will appeal to visitors of all ages. We came here for the snorkeling and to spend a few hours soaking in the sunshine. They have staircases into the water which allow for easy access to reef, which is located along the shore. You don’t need to be a world class swimmer to enjoy the undersea life. There are plenty of fish and some very beautiful coral, including the purple sea fans (which are one of our favourites).

The adventure park has zip-lines, crocodiles and a reconstructed (fake) Mayan Ruins. We came for the reefs, and really enjoyed the underwater experience. There were plenty of fish on the day we visited and there was great visibility of the underwater world.

They have many great spots to relax set up along the waterfront, in case you just want to soak up the sunshine. Chankanaab is the perfect afternoon for kids or adults; after our snorkel adventure we visited the swim up bar, and enjoyed a few Cuba Libres. Overall, we would definitely recommend a visit to Chankanaab, especially if you want to be taken care of; the staff here were amazing. The one thing we really didn’t like about this place was the dolphin show, which we chose not to support.

Chankanaab is another one of the amazing things to do on Mexico’s largest Caribbean island. Cozumel is known for its underwater attractions and the reef here did not disappoint. We really enjoyed snorkeling here and exploring the under the sea life along the shore. We will hopefully have a video coming up soon, so stay tuned.
