If you hear that unusual noise, it’s the sound of August rushing by, and the sound of September rapidly approaching. It’s been an incredible summer, but all good things must inevitably come to an end. Since summer – and especially the month of August – always seems to move a lot faster than all the other months, we have decided to focus our attention on movement. This is why we chose this picture for our latest monthly desktop wallpaper. This picture features one of our favourite public art pieces in Vancouver, the Trans Am Totem.
It seems fitting to share this picture with the theme of movement, as it features a totem pole made of cars, a cyclist passing on a bike and the elevated tracks of the Sky Train (Vancouver’s “subway” system). The Trans Am Totem is located along Pacific Boulevard on the edge of Vancouver’s False Creek near science world. This sculpture was created by local artist Marcus Bowcott, and was revealed in April of 2015 and stands at an impressive 10 meters (33 feet). It features 5 cars stacked on top of a base made of a tree trunk.
Throughout the summer we have been exploring different parts of Vancouver, and we will soon be sharing some of our favourite pictures, travel guides and recommendations for visitors to the city. We have collected quite the backlog of content, which we will be slowly working on showing off over the next couple weeks. One of these upcoming features will be looking at our favourite Public Art pieces in the city, a list which will definitely be featuring this incredible sculpture.
Normally, the end of summer would be a sad moment, but the two of us have been apart all summer and are looking forward to the end of September, as it means we will be re-united together on Cozumel. The countdown is on. We also have been making some fun travel plans for early October, and we’re looking forward to exploring some of Central Mexico, knocking off bucket list places like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, the Pyramids of Choula and Puebla. So we’re excited for the fall and all the amazing travels we have planned.
We have been creating desktop wallpapers as a new monthly feature that we have been working on for 2019, showcasing pictures from some of the amazing places we have traveled over the last few years. We hope you enjoy our latest installment! Stay tuned for our October wallpaper, which will be coming soon. We hope everyone is able to enjoy the last few weeks of summer.
