Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’re almost in July already. Now that summer is in full swing, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the weather. One of the best ways to accomplish this (especially around Vancouver and Squamish) is to go hiking; Vancouver is lucky to be right next to the Coast Mountain range and there are many great places to access this incredible wilderness. For this month’s desktop wallpaper we’re featuring a picture from Squamish, looking back towards the town’s most famous attraction; The Stawamus Chief.
Squamish is located along the Sea to Sky highway, 60 km north of Vancouver – along the main highway to the ski resort at Whistler – and is one of the most popular destinations for people seeking adventure in the wild coastal forests of British Columbia. Squamish used to be thought of as just a place to stop and get snacks or gas on the way to Whistler, but the city has grown recently and becoming one of the top places for outdoor enthusiasts to begin their adventures.
Last summer, we spent a lot of time exploring around Squamish, and we went for many great hikes in the area. The view we are featuring for our July desktop wallpaper was taken along the side of the train tracks looking back at the Stawamus Chief and Shannon Falls to the right. There are many easy walking paths where the Squamish River meets the Howe Sound, which is where we snapped this picture. Not all hikes in the area involve a lot of vertical, and there are many unique views to be found around here.
The Chief is a natural rock formation that towers above the Squamish River Valley and Howe sound below. This granite monolith stands 700 meters tall, with the rocky face of the mountain showing off to the surrounding areas. The Chief is one of the most popular destinations for rock climbers, and in the summertime you can always see people hanging off the face of the mountain.
It is also where one of the most popular hiking trails in British Columbia is located, and the views from the top are really amazing. There is a trail that leads up to each of the three peaks of the mountain (around the back side and up) and this trail is popular with hikers in the summer, especially with the views from above.
Creating beautiful desktop wallpapers is a monthly feature that we have been working on for 2019, showcasing pictures from some of the amazing places we have traveled over the last few years. We hope you enjoy our latest installment! Stay tuned for our August wallpaper coming soon, and we hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful summer weather!
