Riviera Maya Street Art – vol. 2

Mexico is known for having some incredible graffiti and throughout the Riviera Maya, there are many great examples of this unique art form. If you’re able to spend some time adventuring around the region, you will notice that many of the city’s streets have been transformed by local and international artists, adding a splash of colour to the urban setting. If you’ve come to Mexico for the incredible beachfront, you have to consider the street art an added bonus.

There are many great reasons to visit Mexico; white sand beaches, margaritas and endless sunshine, to name just a few. We have lived in Quintana Roo for a few years and have explored many of the great attractions that this beautiful location has to offer. During our adventures through the Riviera Maya we have stumbled upon some great pieces of street art located throughout the city streets, and needed to share these with the world.

These great murals are one of our favourite things to seek out during our travels. We’ve decided to look through the many pictures we have captured over the last few years of different pieces of street art throughout the Riviera Maya. If you’re a fan of graffiti and street art in tropical destinations, you’ve come to the right place. This includes incredible destinations like Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. We recently shared the first series of pictures – Riviera Maya Street Art – Vol. 1 – and as the title suggests, we had too many pictures to share in just one post.

Cancun airport is the gateway to the Riviera Maya, and see’s millions of passengers arriving every year. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico, and the airport is the second busiest in all of Mexico, behind only Mexico City. Most people head straight to the resorts, but for those of you who decide to explore off the beaten track or visit some of the off the bigger cities – like Tulum, Cancun or Playa del Carmen – you’re in for a treat.

Some of the best art is hidden along streets and neighbourhoods that most people don’t visit, and it’s always such a pleasant surprise to walk around a corner to discover a new piece we had not seen before. Some of them tell a story while others are just to show off beauty of the world around us. These artists turn the world around them into their canvass for all people to enjoy, being painted onto otherwise bland and empty walls.

We were inspired recently by the Seawalls Mural Festival held on Cozumel (which is meant to bring the ocean to the streets while bringing awareness to many issues that are impacting the oceans). In the next few weeks, we will be showing off the newest artwork from the island, but we wanted to make sure some of these great pieces got their place in the spotlight first.

We hope you enjoy this collection of street art as much as we do!
