Fraser River Sunsets

The Fraser River is the longest river in British Columbia – stretching from the Rocky Mountains (its headwaters are located just west of Jasper, Alberta) to the Pacific Ocean – and over thousands of years has carved a path through the mountainous province. It empties into the Georgia Straight, just south of Vancouver, Canada. Much of the Lower Mainland (primarily Richmond and Delta) is built on the sediment brought from these far away mountains, and the views over the water – especially at sunset – are hard to beat.

The River Delta is made up of many small islands, and on the river north of Ladner, there are several small uninhabited islands scattered throughout. Ladner is one of the towns located along the Fraser River Delta, which used to be a small fishing village and is now a suburb of Vancouver. This is where Rob spent the summer, working for 4 months to save money for present and future adventures. Since there isn’t much in the way of entertainment out this way, going out to watch the sunset along the river became a “once a week” way to explore the local scenery.

Last week we featured some of our favourite pictures and places located South of the Fraser River, and today we’re focusing on our favourite thing to do in the suburbs; watch the sunset. There were several great spots in Delta to watch the sunset –  Wellington Point and Brockton Point West of Ladner Village or Deas Island Regional Park – all located along the Fraser River. We’ve decided to bring all of these great sunsets together in one spot. There are a few sprinkled in here from previous years as well, but primarily this is celebrating the sunsets of 2018.

We have been featuring photography from Vancouver – from the Sea to Sky Gondola to Stanley Park – and this seems like the perfect place to say goodbye to an amazing summer spent in Vancouver. As we close one chapter and move on to the next, look forward to seeing more pictures from our recent Canadian Rockies Road Trip, and many more adventures from Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.
